This subject became part of our evening conversation yesterday..I know right?!
We have observed different behaviours in different homes, so I wondered, randomly as I do, what the significance maybe..some of my research, not necessarily my personal opinion, provided the following:
Insulting- Leaving the seat up can be seen as a personal insult, and research suggests that this could reflect on how some men may be insensitive or disrespectful in how they treat women in day-to-day life.
Unawareness - Some men may not realise that women prefer the seat down, as the issue doesn't affect them directly.
Lack of Consideration - In some cases, men may purposefully leave the seat up, either out of habit, laziness, or a lack of consideration for other users.
Feng shui anyone?
According to Feng Shui experts, keeping the toilet seat down is crucial! It is believed that wealth can escape down the drains, symbolised by the open toilet lid.
Germ spreading-
The lid was designed to keep germs where they belong, in the bowl and down the drain! Research and studies have found that flushing the toilet with the lid down reduce airborne particles significantly. Water and poo particles can travel as far as 1.5 metres away and linger for up to six hours!
Conclusion- Seat and lid down is the best neutral position for both genders, so you both always know you have to lift the lid and maybe the seat too if you're male, which is easy to do.
In our home my husband has always been considerate and put the seat down after he has had a pee..Oh except on one occasion he forget..I went for a pee in the night, half asleep, and fell down the loo!! Whoops:/
After doing this research, we now have a new habit to form..seat and lid down after use!
What is going on in your home?
