Today marks the Spring equinox, also known as the Vernal equinox, for the Northern hemisphere. The word equinox comes from the Latin words for “equal night”—aequus (equal) and nox (night). On the equinox, the length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world.
The Vernal Equinox is the start of the new astrological year, as the light returns to the Northern hemisphere and begins to wane in the south. It is a moment of time with the fading of the old year and the first ripples of the new.
This day indicates the beginning of a season of fruitfulness, fertility and abundance. It's when we see butterflies appearing and the birds are more active. Plants grow, trees burst into leaf and blossom, flowers start to bloom. This is a great time to enjoy the garden. Whether you're into flowers or vegetables, trees, plants or herbs, spending some time in the garden, or a balcony garden, planting new things and nurturing them through the season.
The weather has begun improving, you may already be feeling that first wave of new possibilities and entering a new reality or new timeline phase. It's a time to come out of hibernation, be outside more, be more social, meet people and start new projects. If you're prone to feeling the seasonal blues, the spring equinox marks a time for longer, sunnier days ahead to lift your mood.
If you're not keen on gardening but still want to tap into the abundance of spring plants, you can also consider eating fresh, local produce that's in season. Eating seasonally has long been an Ayurvedic practice in India, known as ritucharya.
Spending time in nature, walking in the countryside, a mindful stroll, or simply sitting outside. Perhaps try some meditative breathing exercises. These actions help ground you, de-stress you and bring calm to your life. Great for body, soul and mind!
This is an excellent time to start something new. Perhaps you consider starting a new hobby, learn a new skill, a new job opportunity or career change, start a new business, time for spring cleaning your home or a bit for a home decorating.
Now is also a great time to consider making changes to improve your life, health and wellness..
