Estrobolome

Did you know you have a gut-estrogen connection? Meet your estrobolome a beautiful part of your gut ecosystem that supports healthy levels of estrogen. By Aviva Romm MD This ecosystem within your larger gut ecosystem is responsible for breaking down, eliminating, and redistributing estrogen so that your body has the perfect balance all month long - and throughout your lifecycles. A healthy gut flora is like a rainforest with a large variety of organisms all in the right amount and in the right places. When this is disrupted, we experience "dysbiosis." Within the estrobolome, this can be a culprit for hormonal issues including hypothyroidism, PMS, PCOS, endometriosis, fertility challenges, and more. Modern living has stripped away key elements that nourish a healthy microbiome: fiber insufficient diets, not enough exposure to gut-healthy organisms, overuse of antibiotics & other medications, not enough sleep and too much stress, and living a sedentary lifestyle. All of this creates the perfect storm for dysbiosis - and possibly hormone problems as a result. What can you do today to restore gut health - and with it your estrobolome health: Add more fiber to your diet Eat leafy greens EVERY DAY - especially those in the Brassicaceae family: kale, collards, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, etc. Add 1-2 TBS ground flaxseed to your daily diet - it helps your hormones and has also been shown to improve overall sense of well-being Eat a few TBS of lactofermented foods daily: yogurt, kefir, & sauerkraut are great examples Do your best to avoid antibiotic overuse and other unnecessary medications that can harm your gut - including regular ibuprofen use..
