A Window On My Own Self-Care - Walking the Talk, Mindfully!

As I so often advise my clients to practice their self-care, I thought I would share with you one of my own practices to bring balance and harmony to my life. Walking the Talk, Mindfully!


As I spend quite a bit of my time in my office, coaching, writing, coursework, further education and training, it is important to me and my well-being to get out in nature when I can. Nature is my healer; it reduces any stress I maybe hanging on to, it restores and nourishes my heart, soul, mind and body.


The other day we had quite a bit of rain on the island, despite that I managed to grab a moment between the showers to get out in nature with our dogs.


I walked to one of my favourite places, a magical field of healing energy. I have a rock there where I sit, it fits me perfectly. Here I press my own pause button, embracing some mindfulness and meditation practice. The natural experiences I encounter from this rock are wonderfully restorative. I can hear the ocean, the waves crashing on the beach and against the rocks below me. I can hear and see the seabirds; seagulls and Cory's Shearwaters, sweeping over me. I see the cliffs majestically rising up from the ocean, reaching up to the moody sky. The volcanic cones strikingly sit around the village, creating a vibrant backdrop in their many shades of green. Zooming in closer to me, the undulating field is full of lush green grass, a scattering of rocks break up the verdant countryside with splashes of grey. Native trees stand resplendent around the abundant pasture, the leaves dancing in the breeze. The pleasant scent of petrichor fills my nostrils; I delight in it's intense perfume. Ahhhh.....homeostasis is restored..
